Closet Tip!

I wanted to share a tip that I used for a client, who has two teenage boys.  These boys did not like hanging up their clothes.  So when I organized their closets, I suggested we use a hook in the back wall.  This would make it  very easy to just hang sweatshirts, coats, oversized shirts etc.  It eliminates the step of the hanger all together.  The boys can maintain the organization and mom loves the fact the sweatshirts are no longer on the floor!

Time for a Make Over?

In my last post, we talked about organizing your purse, but what about the little purse that often gets forgotten- the Make Up Bag!  These tips can help you whether you have a large, small, round or boxed case… whatever it may be, you want to treat it just like anything else in your home…. Clutter builds up and with clutter comes chaos and frustration!  You can also spend a lot of wasted money buying items you already have or do not need… You want to clear out your make up bag every 6 months to a year.  Make up does get old, and you risk bacteria growing in places like old mascara, this can cause serious eye damage.
Tips:
1.  Take inventory – dump all contents of the bag on a flat surface.
2.  Sort-  If it smells funny, dried out, or has changed color – throw it out.  Any unopened make up that is not going to be used can be donated to a local women’s shelter or local HS Drama Department.  Rule of thumb if you haven’t used it in the last year, you won’t use it.  We use only 20% of what we have, this includes make up.  When sorting ask yourself, Do I use it?, Do I love it?, Do I really need it?
3.  Keep only the items you love and use frequently and are in season- less clutter will help you find what you need faster.
4.  For out of season make up, label a container and store elsewhere.
5.  Once you have taken inventory of what you have, you know what you need.  Visit your favorite make up counter and preview what’s new and upcoming.  Organizing your bag will save you money!  Knowing what you have will prevent you from buying repeat items, and knowing what you need will allow you not to overbuy.
