FAQ
- What is a Professional Organizer?
A Professional Organizer is someone who can take an objective evaluation of your organizational need and make it into a high functioning area. We devise an action plan for your unique needs providing information and assistance. An organizer guides and educates a client by offering support, focus and direction. We want you to Take Control of your surroundings and your time.
- Shouldn’t I be able to organize on my own?
Possibly! You may have the ability and resources yourself, however, do you have the time, the know-how and the will to get it done? Do you know where to start? Many times people put off organizing projects because it’s too time consuming, and it becomes too overwhelming they end up doing nothing. Many of us will go into a store to buy storage containers and then some how we end up with more clutter and the wrong containers. Hiring a professional guides you and your project with a plan, which is so important when tackling an organizing project. It will be a faster process and I can bring ideas and recommendations that you may not have considered.
- What is your confidential policy?
This process should be a comfortable and easy experience. The level of trust placed in Organizers is very high by their clients. We will never do or say anything to breach that trust. Integrity, honesty and confidentiality are guiding principles of NAPO that are taken very seriously. Working in a non-judgmental and supportive way is the only way at “Take Control Organizing”.
- What is NAPO?
The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) is recognized as the leading association for professional organizers. NAPO offers organizers educational and professional development opportunities to increase their abilities to assist their clients. NAPO has a code of ethics that each member must abide by. This Code of Ethics is a set of principles to provide guidelines in our professional conduct with our clients, colleagues, and community. As a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers, I pledge to exercise judgment, self-restraint, and conscience in my conduct in order to establish and maintain public confidence in the integrity of NAPO members and to preserve and encourage fair and equitable practices among all who are engaged in the profession of organizing.
- How much time will take and how much will it cost?
The time will vary on each project. A small project may only take a couple of hours where doing several rooms may take several days. I will do the best I can to estimate the time I think it might take. The cost will also vary on the project and how much new product you need for the space. I want to work within your budget and will plan accordingly.
- Do you work alone or should I stay with you?
I recommend the client work with me during the purging stage of the project. These are your personal items and we want to make sure you decide what stays and what goes. I can do the actual organizing project with or with out you, whatever you prefer. When the project is complete we will walk through the whole process and make sure you have a clear understanding of your new space and any new organization systems we put in place.
- How do I keep the space organized?
This is our essential goal. Part of each project plan is to provide you systems that you can use everyday and maintain. The project’s success depends not only on our expertise and delivery but on your commitment to maintain the systems we create together.
- Should I clean up the area prior to the first meeting?
NO. The best way to analyze your current space is to see how it is used right now. This shows the reality of the space and seeing it “as is”, will help determine what system needs to be in place to make it better.
- Should I buy supplies?
Not right away. It’s too easy to buy the wrong supplies and containers. We will use what you have first. Once we are at a point where we know what we need to put away, we will reevaluate our product needs. We will consider several things including your budget and space constrictions.
- Are you insured?
Yes.
